2012 MARITZBURG MARATHON

THIS RACE WILL BE THE PINNACLE OF THE FEBRUARY FESTIVAL OF RUNNING WHICH WILL BEGIN WITH THE OPENING OF AN EXPO ON FRIDAY EVENING 24 FEBRUARY, CONTINUE WITH FUN RUNS AND RELAYS ON SATURDAY 25 FEBRUARY AND FINISH AT THE END OF PRIZE GIVING AT NOON ON SUNDAY 26 FEBRUARY.

The 2012 WEEKEND WITNESS 'MARITZBURG MARATHON, powered by Clover, takes place on Sunday 26 February 2012. The start is at 05H00. The marathon carries a generous six hour time limit and the half marathon cut off time is three and a half hours.

This is a Two Oceans and Comrades Marathon (5 hours) qualifier.

AGAIN, more entrants used this race as their 2011 Comrades qualifier than any other race.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) will be providing full medical backup on the course, Mediclinic Hospital are our receiving hospital and will assist a doctor and first aiders who will be stationed at the finish.

The Community Chest is our official charity.

There will be many lucky dip prizes, which will be handed out to competitors who find the relevant lucky draw stickers on the back of their medals and many larger ones which will be drawn at prize givings.

All entrants, who complete either the 21,1 kilometre or 42,2 kilometre courses before the respective cut off times will be eligible for medals and these prizes. Athletes who complete five marathons will obtain a permanent number.

ALL ENTRANTS WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR A FREE RACE T - SHIRT WHICH THEY MAY COLLECT AT REGISTRATION.

Entrants and spectators will be entertained by a disc jockey and there will be the usual beer garden as well as hamburgers, wors rolls and cold drinks for sale.

KIDZONE WILL BE PRESENT TO SAFELY ENTERTAIN CHILDREN WHILST THEIR PARENTS ARE TAKING PART.

For individual companies who want participation and exposure, we can offer any of the following and much, much more.

T - SHIRT BRANDING

T - SHIRTS We will be manufacturing more than 6000 commemorative T-Shirts. These shirts will depict the Race sponsor's name on the front, EMS on a sleeve and Asics, our official footwear partner, logo on the other sleeve. Runners wear these shirts ALL the time!

The back of the T-Shirt is reserved for YOUR COMPANY'S LOGO.

For a mere R3000,00 (all inclusive) and provision of your artwork we will... Place a full width full colour print of your company's logo on the backs of 110 Shirts which will be distributed, randomly, to helpers, officials and all marathon entrants.

Provide you with 10 of these commemorative shirts to distribute amongst your staff or customers. (Ie: 110 shirts with your logo on the back) If you wish, you may sponsor as many batches of 110 shirts as you wish @ R3000.00 per batch)

LOCALITY BRANDING

A number of sites are available for branding along the route.

1. 13/34km mark (Opposite Pelham Stores in Oribi Road): For a mere R5000,00 (all inclusive) you will be entitled to brand this area. This is at a large grassy verge where you could set up gazebos, braais, etc and entertain clients or do team building.

2. The 2 Kilometre to go mark - For a mere R5000,00 (all inclusive) you will be entitled to brand the area at the 2 km to go mark where we have a time caller and the athletes need all the encouragement they can get to make the final surge down Surrey Road to the finish. This is at a large grassy area where you could set up gazebos, braais, etc and entertain clients or do team building.

3. Kidzone: - For a mere R15000,00 (all inclusive) you will be entitled to brand the area demarcated for the Kidzone where, on Saturday and Sunday, children will be able to be left in the care of qualified and safe custody of adult supervision whilst folk take part in the various events. This large enclosed area at the finish/prize giving area is enclosed with 1.2m high safety fencing and has four (4) sides of approximately 30 metres each which make ideal support for long banners.

5. Results Brochure : For a mere R12000.00 your company could be featured in a banner advert across a page of the results brochure. We will be producing a 12 (YES! TWELVE!) page tabloid results brochure in Weekend Witness on Saturday 3 March 2012. This pullout results brochure will reach every reader of the Weekend Witness which is distributed throughout KwaZulu-Natal and will be kept by those whose names appear in the brochure.
